Washington Capitals Issue Heartbreaking Announcement Regarding Beloved Team Figure
The Washington Capitals issued an official statement today regarding the wellbeing of the team's public address announcer Wes Johnson.
Washington Capitals home games are going to sound a little bit different for the foreseeable future as the team made a shocking and sad announcement this afternoon.
Apparently, the team's public address announcer Wes Johnson has suffered a serious medical emergency and is currently in the hospital battling for his life.
"The Washington Capitals express our heartfelt thoughts and send our best wishes to our beloved public address announcer, Wes Johnson, as he faces a significant medical emergency. We kindly ask everyone to keep Wes in your thoughts and to respect the family's privacy as they navigate this challenging time and focus on Wes' well-being."
Johnson's family has set up a gofundme page to help cover his medical expenses as he continues to battle for his life.
The Capitals have asked fans who are able to donate, and donate they have.
The campaign has surpassed its 50k dollar goal in less than 24 hours and that total continues to climb, showing just how beloved Johnson is with the fan base.
In the description they say what happened, revealing that he suffered an unknown medical emergency last week and has been in intensive care since.
"On Wednesday, Jan. 22nd, Wes volunteered to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer's Foundation in Atlanta. He flew down and checked into his hotel room- but something happened and he didn't make it out of the hotel. When he didn't show up at the event, his wife Kim tried desperately to get in touch with him. It took hotel security to enter his room and discover him unconscious and barely alive. EMT crews struggled to find a pulse. Right now, Wes continues to battle for his life in an intensive care unit"
Johnson is not only the PA announcer for the Capitals, but he is also a prominent voice actor known for his roles in various video games including Elder Scrolls and the Fallout series.
He has also made appearances in TV and film including the shows Veep, America's Most Wanted, and Head of State.
We are all wishing Johnson and his family the best in this difficult time. Get well soon Wes!
