NHL Insider Hints At Bruins Selling Key Players After 4 Nations Face-Off Break
One of the top insiders around the Bruins recently revealed that the team is likely going to be sellers from this point on, and key players could be shipped out.
NHL insider Chris Johnston speculated that the Boston Bruins would be sellers when the March 7 trading deadline approaches after the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
"I think a big one for me is Boston, because I really think that they could go down the road where, potentially, they're looking at being even, somewhat of a selling team."
- Chris Johnston
The Bruins sit at a 27-24-6 mark, two points short of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, making their playoff status in doubt.
Johnston presented a line of Bruins players that would be available to be sent to other destinations, specifically players going to unrestricted free agency.
Three key players could be dealt by the Bruins
Captain Brad Marchand, whose 8-year, $49 million contract (according to PuckPedia) is up at season's end, is one of the marquee players.
«At this point, I have no reason to believe that they're going to do that, but I don't think it can be entirely ruled out.»
- Chris Johnston
Forward Trent Frederic, also going to unrestricted free agency when his 2-year, $4.6 million contract is up next offseason, would be of interest to several teams, too.
"I just think that if they choose to, you know, start a process, even if it's just a little bit of a retool on the fly, that they could put some pretty intriguing names into the mix, trade wise."
- Chris Johnston
Defenseman Brandon Carlo is signed for two more years on his 6-year, $24 million contract, yet he, too, would be a highly coveted trading commodity to teams looking to shore up their defense.
