After an iconic run as PA Announcer of the Toronto Maple Leafs that ended in 1999, fans are now mourning the loss of the legendary Paul Morris, who passed away after an incredible four decade role with the team.
Despite not having much success in the modern NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most storied franchises in the league, with many of their fondest memories coming at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Now, tragically, the team and their fans are mourning the loss of Paul Morris, the PA announcer that was the long time voice of the team between 1961 and 1999, with the team posting this tribute on social media:
We are saddened to share that longtime Maple Leafs PA Announcer Paul Morris has passed away at 86.
The voice of Maple Leaf Gardens for decades, Paul never missed a game from 1961 to 1999. He called the final game at the Gardens and was the first voice at Scotiabank Arena. More than an announcer, Paul was part of Leafs history. His voice and legacy will forever echo in Leafs Nation.
While he retired from the team to a quiet life back in 1999, Marros will be remembered by a generation or more of fans as the voice of the team, most notably being the announcer for their last Stanley Cup win way back in 1967, with the tributes pouring in all over social media.
We take this time to send our condolences to the family, friends, coworkers and everyone that knew Morris, who was, by all accounts an incredible human being at and away from work during his time in Toronto, and hope that they all realize just what an incredible impact he made on the team during that time.
Rest in Peace, Paul Morris.
