Loui Eriksson left the NHL back in 2022 after two decades, and now the 39-year old has officially announced his retirement from the game on social media following a two year absence from the NHL.
Way back in 2003, the Dallas Stars used a second-round draft pick on winger Loui Eriksson out of Sweden, who would go on to have an immense career in the league.
While it took a few years to get his career going, Eriksson posted career highs of 71, 73 and 71 points between 2009 and 2012 with Dallas before going on to play with Boston, Vancouver and ultimately the Arizona Coyotes to round out his NHL career.
Now, after being out of the NHL since 2022 with the Coyotes, the now 39-year old has officially announced his retirement from the game of hockey, capping off a stellar run even if he was never able to have much success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
During that time, Eriksson would play in 1,050 games at the NHL level, compiling an impressive 253 goals and 613 points during that stretch, all the while he seemingly became a fan favourite wherever he ended up.
Since leaving the NHL, Eriksson played one season as a professional overseas in Sweden with Frolunda FC, but with no hopes of returning to the NHL, it appears that he's ready to take a step towards the next phase of his career.
Sure, Eriksson would never go on a deep Stanley Cup run and taste that glory, but over 16 years in the league he would become a fan favourite and a consistent producer wherever he played, and now, fans are incredibly excited about what they may see next from the very popular and respected Swedish native.
