The Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are reportedly still far apart in contract negotiations with training camp set to begin in less than a month.

Earlier this summer, traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, a move that solidified Jeremy Swayman's spot as the team's starting netminder beginning in the 2024-25 season.

Not long after the Ullmark trade, Jeremy Swayman became a restricted free agent and it doesn't appear that things are close on either his side or on the Bruins' side, which is leaving fans a bit uneasy heading into the end of August.

While it's likely a foregone conclusion that Jeremy Swayman will get signed before the start of the season, according to Shawn Hutcheon of The Fourth Period, talks between the two sides are ongoing, but they're far apart on both term and money as of Thursday.

In a radio interview on Thursday in Boston, Bruins President Cam Neely said that there's no question they'll get something done with Swayman and they'll be able to come to an agreement in the near future.

"Something will get done. There's no question," Neely said. "Not every negotiation is as smooth as you'd like it. I know our fan base would like something done by now, but I'm fully confident both sides will come to an agreement before too long here."

Swayman, 25, had a solid year for the Bruins in 2023-24, helping them finish second in the Atlantic Division, but they weren't able to get past the Florida Panthers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 44 games, the Anchorage, Alaska native had a record of 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and three shutouts.

It's going to be interesting to see what Swayman's contract looks like when all is said and done. From Swayman's perspective, taking a shorter term contract in the three or four-year range would likely get him a big payday at the end, if he wants to hit the free agent market. However for the Bruins, they know he's their starting goaltender, hopefully for the long-term future of the organization, and they'll want him locked up to an eight-year deal.
