It's hard to believe that Nazem Kadri is entering his third season with the Calgary Flames when the puck drops on the 2024-2025 season but after Brad Treliving signed the forward to a seven-year contract worth $49 million as it stands today, Kadri likely didn't envision being on a team that is more likely in a rebuild than a contender.
Kadri's name has been rumoured to be bountied around in trade talks recently with the Winnipeg Jets the frontrunner to obtain his services but along with an exuberant contract, an NMC stands in the way of a potential deal for the thirty-three-year-old who just came off the second most successful season of his National Hockey League career where he contributed potting 29 goals to go along with 46 assists for 75 points.

For their part, the Jets are in desperate need of a second-line centre. A position that Kadri could fit in admirably if given the opportunity. While Vladislav Namestikov will be utilized in that spot according to the depth chart and the Jets have options in Cole Perfetti and Brad Lambert NHL Insider Ken Wiebe believes it makes sense for Kevin Cheveldayoff to call Craig Conroy to see if something can get done.
Although Kadri has mentioned time and time again that he's enjoyed his time in Calgary it may be the perfect time to try to move him. As a consistent twenty-goal scorer he showed in Colorado that he could be a pivotal second-line option. All this is to say that Kadri likely won't waive his NMC and remain in Calgary indefinitely.
