The scandal that resulted in five players facing serious charges won't go away anytime soon however it seems as if another member of the five will be able to play hockey this season, albeit overseas in the KHL.
Twenty-six-year-old Dillon Dube who last played in the NHL with the Calgary Flames during the 2023-2024 season has reportedly signed a contract with Dinamo Minsk, a Belarus-based club apart of the Kontinental Hockey League.
Dube played parts of six seasons with the Calgary Flames while also splitting time in the American Hockey League with the Stockton Heat. In 325 games with the Flames Dube accumulated 57 goals to go along with 70 assists for 127 points. Across 22 playoff games the 5'11, 185lb left-shot centre contributed 4 goals and 2 assists.
Dube isn't the only player who was allegedly involved in the scandal who will be playing overseas but there may be a trend of KHL teams giving players second, third or fourth chances at continuing their careers. It's tough to say whether they deserve an opportunity to play the game that they grew up in and have attempted to make a career out of, but then again many people before them have received other chances for what could be perceived as far greater and far less.
