It doesn't matter the sport, you never want to see an athlete placed on a stretcher. As hockey fans we've seen it occur far too often and every single one it creates serious dread. Today at the Olympic Games in Paris veteran runner Lamecha Girma suffered a serious injury.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Girma attempted to jump over a hurdle but fell awkwardly crashing hard to the ground. The fall left the former silver medalist unconscious on the track as other runners ran around him.

The elation from the race immediately turned to concern as Girma remained down on the track. After being tended to be medics he was loaded onto a stretcher and removed from the track.

After being removed from the track unconscious, Girma would finally regain consciousness before being taken to a local medical facility.

According to reports he is alert and waiting a diagnosis. Our thoughts are with Girma at this time.
