Pagnotta reports that Jarvis and Carolina sound close on a seven or eight year deal with an AAV around $7.5M.
The 22 year old was second on the team in goals last season with 33, and provided 34 assists for 67 points in 81 games. Selected 13th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, Jarvis has spent three seasons with the Hurricanes, wrapping up his entry level contract.
A rumored deal for Jarvis around $7.5M would put him third among forwards with only Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho earning more. An argument could be made on who the better play is between Svechnikov and Jarvis. Many GMs would probably give the slight edge to Svechnikov because of his explosiveness and game breaking ability when healthy, which is becoming a concern in his young career. Jarvis plays a more two-way game and is continuing to evolve with his career year last year a perfect example.
Carolina currently has $6,440,000 in cap space per Puck Pedia, so if the rumored amount is true for Jarvis, some cap maneuvering would be necessary before the season begins.
