While the Chicago Blackhawks are clearly in a rebuild, things haven't gone according to plan in 2024/25, with the team expecting to take a little step forward behind Connor Bedard and some of their off-season acquisitions.
Unfortunately, that simply hasn't happened as the team have struggled all over the ice, posting an 8-16-2 record through their first 26 games of the campaign.
Now, the Blackhawks have finally made a change, announcing on Thursday that they have officially parted ways with Head Coach Luke Richardson after three seasons at the helm.
The story was first broken by Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, and while it may have been a shock move to happen right now, it's certainly been a long time coming for those in Chicago.
During his three years as Head Coach, Richardson has put together a 57-118-15 record, and while the expectations were low given the fact that the team had just moved on from Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, they seemingly expected more from this season.
There's a little talent around Connor Bedard, who himself started the year slow, but in the front office's of Chicago, they clearly just didn't see Richardson as a coach that could take them forward with any confidence.
Ultimately, it was unlikely that Richardson was going to see the season out as coach given how the team believe in Bedard and what they are doing moving forward, and now the team will need to find a new coach as they look to usher in a new era of success in Chicago behind their former No. 1 overall pick and some of their talented names coming through the organization.
