Last month, Scott Powers of The Athletic shared that the Chicago Blackhawks were going to internally discuss the possibility of bringing Patrick Kane back to The Windy City after spending the 202324 season in Detroit and the last part of the 202223 campaign in New York with the Red Wings.
At the NHL's Draft Combine on Friday in Buffalo, Kyle Davidson met with reporters and was asked by Ben Pope of the Chicago-Sun Times if the team will be looking at a reunion with franchise legend Patrick Kane.
Davidson said that the team was happy to see that he had a good year with the Red Wings, but he doesn't think the team will go back on the tough decision they made to move on from Patrick Kane. In other words, Patrick Kane will not be returning to the Chicago Blackhawks this summer.
Kane, 35, signed with Detroit in November 2023 after recovering from off-season hip surgery. He went on to appear in 50 games this season, putting up 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists), 16 penalty minutes and a minus-five.
While this news may be a bit of a let down for fans of the Chicago Blackhawks, it's certainly the right move. The Blackhawks need to move forward in their rebuild with it being Connor Bedard's team now and Kyle Davidson will likely be looking to others on the free agent market to help the organization in the scoring department, with one option being Jake Guentzel.
