The Philadelphia Flyers could be pretty active in the National Hockey League's buyout window later this month.

In a recent interview with NHL.com, Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Danny Briere said that they're considering all of their options when it comes to goaltender Cal Petersen and forward Cam Atkinson.

One of those options includes buying out their contracts, which could come when the first buyout window opens 24 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends.

"We're looking at every option," Briere said. "Because we're tight on [NHL salary] cap space, we're still looking at every possible option in that direction. Both Cam Atkinson and Cal Petersen want to prove that they can still play in the NHL. So we're evaluating all of that, but we haven't made a final decision yet."

According to CapFriendly, the Flyers are projected to have just over $503,000 in cap space available for the 202425 season. This will go up by over $6 million before the season begins in October after Ryan Ellis lands on long-term injured reserve.

Atkinson, 35, is entering the final year of his contract, that comes with an average annual value of $5.875 million. Meanwhile, Cal Petersen is also set to be in the final year of his current contract in 202425, where he has a cap hit of $5 million.

Whether the Flyers decide to buy out either Atkinson or Petersen, it will help the organization in a big way if Briere wants to make a splash in free agency starting on July 1st.
