NHL Insider called out for incorrect information about NHL players, this time about Valeri Nichushkin
Being a member of the NHL media is a very difficult job. Media members have to walk the line between reporting what they hear, airing on the side of caution and respecting a player's privacy. For one NHL Insider that has been a very difficult tight rope for him to walk. Now for the second season in a row Frank Seravalli finds himself in hot water.
Last season Seravalli found himself in hot water after he incorrectly reported injury information about Golden Knight's goaltender, Robin Lehner. After two separate incidents Lehner finally responded to Seravalli through the media sharing the following quotes.
"That's a better question for @frank_seravalli, my doctor.
I'm not going to talk about injuries. Obviously what Dr. Seravalli wasn't true. Obviously I haven't had a surgery, so I'm good."
This morning while doing a radio spot on one of Sportsnets radio stations Seravalli had the following to say about Colorado Avalanche forward, Valeri Nichushkin.
@frank_seravalli said this morning in the @Sportsnet650 radio show that "something happened in the team hotel on Friday evening» and «it's related to the alcohol."
He also said he himself and other reporters are trying to figure out what part of this story should be published and what should be considered to remain private.
Now once again Seravalli finds himself in hot water after Nichushkin's agent Mark Gandler has finally broken the silence from the Nichushkin camp shutting down Seravalli's apparently inaccurate reports. Gandler shared the following very concise quote with MetaRatings.
"Nichushkin left Colorado because of problems with alcohol? This is not so.
Either way it's great to hear from Nichushkin's agent and hear him shutting down these reports. Our thoughts and prayers are still with Nichushkin.
Ammendment:
To confirm despite Lehner's denials of Seravalli's claims he did in fact undergo offseason surgery that Seravalli had mentioned. While Lehner denied the reports, there was obviously some truth to the report.
As for the Nichushkin report there is no information at this time confirming or denying the report by Seravalli. Frank Seravalli stands behind his report and maintains the highest journalistic integrity.
