Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine & fiancé create mental health support group
Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine & his fiancé Jordan, have created a mental health support group.
The 2023-24 season was a tough one for Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine. He was limited to just 19 games before suffering an injury and then entering the NHL, NHLPA's players assistance program in January, where he remained until a couple weeks ago.
In a video posted on social media on Monday, Patrik Laine and his fiancé, Jordan, announced the creation of a mental health support group called 'From Us to You'.
The group provides people the opportunity to share their experiences with their own mental health stories and lessons they've learned to overcome adversity they've faced. They've also opened up their DM's so people can share a message or video talking about a piece of advice they've received that helped them out through a tough time in their life.
"Hi everyone. Thank you for all the support we've received over the last few months - it's really meant a lot to us. We have a really special announcement to make. A lot of you have reached out to us with your own personal mental health stories. Even more of you have expressed the value that comes from speaking out. We wanted to do something to continue the conversation." Laine said.
His fiancé, Jordan, added "Patty and I created the community 'From Us to You' for all of us to share experiences and lessons around overcoming adversity. To contribute to our project and help us spread positivity in the mental health space, you can go to the link in our bio and fill out the submission form letting us know a piece of advice that helped you through a tough time. You can also submit a video to us through our DM's and you have the option to do this totally anonymously. It's our hope that 'From Us to You' can become a trusted support for information and mental health advocacy."
Mental health struggles are something that everyone will face at some point in their life and it's okay to reach out and ask for help or just talk to a friend or family member when you need someone to lean on. What Patrik Laine and his fiancé are doing with 'From Us to You' is going to help a lot of people who struggle with their mental health and it's great to see them being helpful with their new initiative.
More information can be found via the Instagram account for their new initiative - From Us to You.
