A report states Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane could very well start the 2024-25 season on long-term injured reserve as doctors determine if surgery is needed

We're about a month away from NHL teams opening their training camps in preparation for the 2024-25, and one big name from the Edmonton Oilers may not be there. That's according to a report from Oilers commentator Bob Stauffer.

Stauffer has posted on his social media profile that he's been told Kane might start the 2024-25 season on long-term injured reserve, and that a medical team is trying to determine whether the 33-year-old need to go under the knife.

Evander Kane's time with the Edmonton Oilers has been full of ups and down. He came to Edmonton after being dropped from his contract by the San Jose Sharks. The last straw appeared to be a suspension for violating NHL COVID protocols. Kane fit in well with the Oilers at first, but took criticism in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs where the Oilers made it all the way to the finals for being largely a non-factor. Once the Oilers were eliminated in the final round, speculation ran rampant that Kane would be traded, or possibly even bought out of the final two years of his contract, which carries a cap hit of $5.125 million.

Several reports indicate Kane in dealing with a hip injury, something that troubles many NHL players throughout their careers. So far, there has been no statement from the Edmonton Oilers, or Kane himself.
