Sean Monahan was off to an incredible start in 2024/25, but now the veteran star will be on the shelf for much longer after a heartbreaking setback following a major career turnaround over the past 18 months.

After an emotional off-season, Sean Monahan got off to an incredible start this year in Columbus, helping drag this young team into Stanley Cup Playoffs contention in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, he was placed on Injured Reserve a few weeks ago, and now, the update on his status is not a positive one, as the Blue Jackets have now made an announcement on social media.

According to the team, he's set to miss the next six to eight weeks of action with a wrist injury that was suffered around three weeks ago, representing a major loss for the highly competitive Blue Jackets.

In 41 games this season, Monahan has tallied 14 goals and 41 points, finding some incredible chemistry with the likes of Kirill Marchenko, a major bounceback after his time in Calgary ended full of injuries, stopping him from reaching his full potential at the NHL level.

In his place, the team are now relying on Adam Fantili to step up and secure a role as a top centre in the NHL, and while that's a positive for the future, the team desperately need No. 23 back if they're to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Ultimately, Monahan's massive free agency deal was always going to be a risk for the Blue Jackets, but thus far it's paid off well, and if they can get him healthy and back on the ice, it's safe to say that this team's ceiling is a whole lot higher than when he's on the sidelines.
