Stars' Heiskanen has his sights set winning individual award over Stanley Cup
The Dallas Stars have their sights set on earning one of the top-three spots in the Central Division next season, with the hope of returning to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2020.
But for Miro Heiskanen, he's firmly focused on winning the Norris Trophy next season and wants to become the best defenceman in the National Hockey League.
"That's one thing I really want to win," Heiskanen said. "I want to be the best defenseman in the NHL."
He added, "I kind of knew that it is there, that I can score more points and be more involved offensively," he said. "I think I was able to put it all together. It didn't take away the defense by playing more offense."
The 24-year-old broke out this past season, doubling his previous point total after putting up 73 (11 goals, 62 assists), 32 penalty minutes and was a plus-12 in 79 regular season games. Heiskanen went on to add 12 points in 19 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Heiskanen, a native of Espoo, Finland will be one of the favourites for the Norris Trophy heading into the 2023-24 season, but will have some tough competition including Cale Makar, Adam Fox, Victor Hedman, Roman Josi, Charlie McAvoy and Quinn Hughes among others.
