This season is shaping up to be a huge one for the Dallas Stars, and even with the team missing some key pieces, they've build immense momentum in recent times.
One of the main reasons for their success is the rise of the youth on their team, with players like Logan Stankoven and Jason Robertson establishing themselves at an elite level, but it's Wyatt Johnston that perhaps has the most potential of all.
On Sunday, he brought his season tally up to 55 points in 60 games with a hat-trick, and on Monday, insider Cam Robinson has a report that the team are looking to extend him long-term.
According to Robinson, the Stars latest offer to Johnston is eight-years and just over $8 million per season, which would be an absolute bargain for the 21-year old rising star, who has the potential to be one of the best players in the NHL.
As of right now however, it appears Johnston and his representation know that, and with the salary cap rising significantly in the coming years, he knows he can likely cash in for a much bigger payday, so as of right now, he is yet to accept any offer given to him by the Stars.
At this point it's unclear if he wants more AAV, less term to cash in bigger down the road or if he simply wants to wait and focus on the 2024/25 season given the Stars Stanley Cup ambitions, but with so much potential, it would make sense that Dallas are looking to lock him up as quick as possible.
