This season has been a promising one for the San Jose Sharks, and they've continued to add young talent to their roster, as they claimed Walker Duehr on waivers from the Calgary Flames back in January.
The former undrafted forward showed plenty of promise in Calgary, but failed to build on that momentum, and after losing his spot in the lineup, the Sharks believed he could be a valuable piece to their bottom-six.
Now however, the team have officially placed him back on waivers, first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Monday.
In eight games with the team this season, Duehr tallied just two goals and a -5 differential, and at 27-years of age, it appears as though the team believe he has reached his full potential and won't be able to help their team moving forward.
However, the 6-foot-3 forward has plenty of physical tools and has shown the ability to score goals at the NHL level, with his career high of 7 goals in 27 games back in 2022/23 for Calgary, so perhaps he simply needs to find the right fit for that potential to be fulfilled.
More likely than not however is that a team would like him to be a part of their AHL team, as he has produced well at that level, including 19 points in 20 games for the Calgary Wranglers this season before being waived by the Flames organization.
Ultimately though, it's unlikely that he draws much attention on the waiver wire, so while one team may look to take a chance on him, it appears that his future lays in the AHL, rather than at the top level where he has been unable to consistently produce over the past few years.
