There appears to be fermenting possibility of changes in Boston. The Bruins are stirring the waters leading up to the 2025 trade deadline, reports NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of 32 Thoughts.
Potential candidates who are in hot water are pending UFA Trent Frederic, a "gets moves" guy according to Friedman as well as Justin Brazeau and Morgan Geekie, names who could get moved but aren't a certainty as much as Frederic.
Although the Bruins are inclined to trade rentals, there is also interest in what they might get in return for the future.
Friedman believes Boston has gone shopping with some names available to gauge how much they're worth while still in the process of negotiating a Brad Marchand contract extension.
With the March 7 deadline fast approaching and no Frederic extension in sight, it shouldn't be a shock to see Boston shopping around.
Frederic's two-way potential and physical abilities make him a desirable asset for playoff clubs looking to make a spring run.
This season, in 57 games, Frederic has eight goals, seven assists, 152 hits, and a minus-14 rating.
Although his offense this season has not been as strong as it was last season when he had 18 goals and 40 points in 82 games, his secondary scoring and grit could be an asset to teams that need depth.
With the Bruins having a dismal season, their strategy at the deadline might well mark a change. Whether they deal Frederic or search for longer-term components, Boston seems to be trying everything in the next couple of weeks, that's for sure
