Stop me if you've heard this one before, but someone is accusing Tim Stützle of the Ottawa Senators of taking a dive to draw a penalty.
In last night's game between the Sens and Detroit Red Wings, Detroit's Christian Fischer was given two-minute minor penalty for tripping Stützle. After having a chance to review the play on an iPad, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde was furious.
You can see Lalonde telling the officials that Stützle took a dive and should be penalized for embellishment. At one point, you can see him mouth "that's f---in bull!"
Whether deserved or not, and that's a matter of personal opinion, Stützle has a reputation for diving and embellishing in an attempt to draw penalties. If Lalonde is right, it worked here. Ottawa did not score on the ensuring powerplay, but did end up beating Detroit by a score of 3-2.
