Simon Edvinsson scored just 1:30 into overtime, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
The win marked their fifth in their last 10 to start giving the team some momentum after a rather slow start to the season.
Patrick Kane's goal and assist helped Detroit, as did Jonatan Berggren's goal. Detroit goaltender Cam Talbot continued to shine through it all, stopping 32 shots to earn his milestone 250th career win. Kane's second-period power-play goal was his third of the season and first since Oct. 24.
In somewhat of a surprise, Detroit player Jeff Petry was spotted in an Adidas jersey; curious, because Adidas has not been the official jersey sponsor of the NHL since the deal with Fanatics took effect.
It was a move sure to raise eyebrows among fans and analysts alike, as they now wonder if Detroit will be fined for what appeared to be a gaffe in their uniforms.
Anthony Beauvillier and Bryan Rust scored for the Penguins, who were able to force overtime in Pittsburgh.
Beauvillier continued his persistence, coming off a goal in Monday's heavy 7-1 loss to Dallas. The Penguins also celebrated another important milestone recently as star forward Evgeni Malkin scored his 500th career goal a little while ago against Buffalo.
Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 28 shots against his former team in net for Pittsburgh but was unable to seal the win.
The Penguins have fallen on some hard times, having lost four of their last five and ten of their last thirteen overall.
Still, Pittsburgh boasts a good record against Detroit, earning points in 13 of their last 15 meetings.
