Derek Lalonde is reportedly on the hot seat in Detroit, and while there's plenty of candidates to replace him, one insider reveals why it won't be Sergei Fedorov.

The Detroit Red Wings are off to a solid start this season, posting an 8-10-2 record through their first 20 games, but with much higher expectations this season, the pressure is beginning to mount.

While they may be looking to make some changes on the ice, there's always the possibility of a switch behind the bench, but after the Bruins fired Jim Montgomery, absolutely anything is possible.

According to recent reports, the seat in Detroit is getting hotter for coach Derek Lalonde, and if things don't turn around in a hurry, he could be out.

That has led to speculation of a potential reunion with Sergei Fedorov, and while talks have picked up that GM Steve Yzerman could look to bring back his former teammate behind the bench.

However, Bob Duff at Detroit Hockey Now has shut down those rumours in a big way, stating two very important reasons why it's not going to happen.

There's a reason why Fedorov is still waiting to see his number 91 hoisted into the rafters at Little Caesars Arena.

It's also interesting to note that while Yzerman was bringing back virtually every available Red Wings legend from his era to work for him, he's never been extending an olive branch to Fedorov.

In terms of the relationship between the two, let's just say they aren't exchanging Christmas cards.
So, as much as you might be dreaming of Fedorov as Red Wings coach, that's all it is.

As long as the Ilitches own the team and Yzerman is its GM, this will never be a reality.

According to Duff, a 1998 offer sheet from the Carolina Hurricanes that he signed along with his departure for the Anaheim Ducks have soured the relationship, and with things not on the best terms between he and Yzerman, it's going to be a long time before that's fixed.

However, a coaching change this season is more than likely unless they can turn things around, and with the 'Yzerplan' of bringing this team back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs still not complete, the pressure mounts for everyone in Detroit.
