While on Sportsnet 960 radio, Luke Gazdic said that he heard that long-time Oilers forward and 1,000+ game NHL veteran Sam Gagner will be returning to Edmonton on a PTO.
Gagner, 34, was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers sixth overall back in 2007 and went on to spend the first seven years of his NHL career with them. Gagner then came back to Edmonton in a trade with Vancouver in February 2019, before being dealt to Detroit just over a year later.
In 542 games with the Oilers, the London, Ontario native has 317 points (111 goals, 206 assists), 264 penalty minutes and is a minus-89.
The Oilers are poised to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this coming season. So far this summer, Ken Holland has added Connor Brown, Drake Caggiula and Lane Pederson in free agency, but still needs to get defenceman Evan Bouchard under contract with training camp set to open in roughly six weeks.

It looks like the #Oilers are turning to a long-time journeyman they originally drafted in Sam Gagner.
The team is reportedly going to give him a PTO for the 202324 training camp.
