Fans are waiting on the edge of their seats for news following an injury to Edmonton Oilers and NHL superstar Connor McDavid. McDavid left last night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets early and did not return after crashing into the boards following a trip by Zach Werenski.
There was no call on the play, but that's not what has one member of the Edmonton Oilers upset. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor McDavid's linemate, is not too pleased with the complete lack of retaliation by teammates after McDavid left the game.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has provided an update on his star player, saying Connor McDavid was headed back to Edmonton for further evaluation. According to the Two Mutts podcast, that evaluation will include McDavid's own personal trainer and support staff, as well as medical staff with the Oilers.
For now, everyone will continue to wait for more details on the severity of the injury, but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is right. You can't watch your star player and team leader go down like that without at least having a few words with Zach Werenski over how it happened. That's not to say that Werenski planned to injure McDavid, but teammates still need to step up for their star.
