Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin has been astonishing NHL fans with his goal scoring prowess for close to two decades now. The 38 year old, Ovechkin is already a Stanley Cup champion, capturing the trophy during the 2017-18 run. Besides another Stanley Cup run, the other thing motivating Ovechkin is chasing down Wayne Gretzky to become the NHL's all-time goal scorer. He is only 41 goals away from tying The Great One.
With Ovechkin knowing his days as a professional hockey player are slowing coming to an end, he is becoming more open with the media about his future plans to end his professional career.
Ovechkin recently did an interview with RIA Novosti's Andrey Senchenko revealing that he would like to end his professional career with Moscow Dynamo. He was brought up through Dynamo's academy, playing the first four years of his professional career with the club.
The Russian native has two years remaining on his deal with the Capitals, carrying a cap hit of $9.5M.
Ovechkin finished last season with 31 goals, his lowest output since the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. He started the season slow before closing it out on a tear. If he can carry that momentum into next season, a 42 goal season to become the NHL's all-time goal scorer could be a reality.
