The Edmonton Oilers have some work to do when it comes to signing their core to long-term extensions. That part is no secret, but it appears that they might be further apart, then many realized with one of their stars in terms of dollar value on their next contract.
According to Daily Faceoff insider, Frank Seravalli, The Oilers and forward, Leon Draisaitl are much further apart when it comes to the dollar amount on his next contract. Something that was not anticipated based on earlier reports.
Draisaitl, 28, played 81 games for the Edmonton Oilers last season collecting a total of 106 points, including 41. Goals and adding 65 assists.
Draisaitl, of course is part of a dynamic duo that includes Connor McDavid. Making sure that he is signed should be a top priority for the Oilers especially because he's slated to be a free agent after next season.
We'll see what happens, but this is a concerning update, especially if you're an Edmonton Oilers fan. The last thing you want is for one of your core members to walk away from the team in free agency.
