It's a great thing for hockey when new rivalries are built. And, it seems we have one growing between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
As you may recall, Toronto fans chanted "we want Florida!" during last year's playoffs, when it was clear the Maple Leafs would finally make it to the second round. That didn't work out so well, as the Panthers handily beat Toronto 4-1 in their series, and went all the way to the Cup final before hitting trouble themselves.
In the first regular season meeting between the two teams since then, fans in Miami sarcastically chanted "we want Florida!," right back at the Leafs.
There's a good possibility that the two teams will meet each other again in the 2024 playoffs, if both play up to expectations. That should provide more fuel to throw on the rivalry.
