Minnesota Wild decide to not wear Pride uniforms and fans are upset
Earlier this year Philadelphia Flyers defender Ivan Provorov opted to not join his teammates for warm ups when the team wore Pride Jerseys. Since that time other teams have opted to scrap wearing the entire Pride Jerseys entirely.
Tonight the Minnesota Wild made the decision to join that group. The Wild were scheduled to wear Pride Jerseys for warm up, but according to Michael Russo the team decided against the activity.
#mnwild players, who were supposed to wear Pride jerseys tonight and did so last season, are not wearing them in warmups.
Told it was an organizational decision
The Wild have several other Pride initiatives they are doing
Some fans quickly responded with anger to this decision of the team and voiced their displeasure.
Others took an opposing stance and supported the Wild's decision.
One thing is for sure though. Gary Bettman and the NHL need to find a solution going forward because the constant negative press the league is receiving isn't going away any time soon.
This begs the question, is it time to scrap every speciality night for NHL teams?
