JT Miller starting to show incredible leadership as he comes to the defense of a teammate and drops Cole Smith with a right hand
JT Miller has been the target of a lot of criticism in Vancouver this season. After signing a 7-year 56 million dollar contract fans expected Miller to elevate his game. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case and Miller's signing ultimately drove Captain, Bo Horvat out of Vancouver.
During this season JT Miller has also been caught on multiple occasions yelling at teammates, including former teammate Luke Schenn and goaltender Colin Delia. At the Trade Deadline though the Canucks took a sellers approach and moved out multiple pieces of their leadership group. This left a clear gap on the team, a gap that must be filled.
Well many didn't expect Miller to fill that role, it appears under Rick Tocchet that Miller is far more comfortable. Last night during the game between the Nashville Predators, Miller's new found leadership skills were on full display.
Approximately 7 minutes into the 2nd period both teams began to push and shove behind the Canucks net, at which point Miller squared off with Cole Smith. Smith landed a few quick and hard shots, but once Miller gained his footing he was able to deliver a hard right hand which rocked Smith.
On the play both players ended up with 5 minute majors for fighting. Miller's teammates loved his effort and the Canucks were able to go onto a 4-3 shootout win.
