The Minnseota Wild celebrated a very special night last night. Marc-Andre Fleury played in his 1,000th game. As a gift, the Wild made him a 1,000-game sign out of flowers and a sign with 552 wins, second most in the NHL.
Minnesota ended up winning the game last night, 3-2, against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fleury had three saves along with six blocked shots that sealed the deal when Pittsburgh pulled their goalie. And what a story that is; playing your 1,000th game against the team that drafted you and the team you spent the most time on.
They even gave him a pregame tribute, where former and longtime teammate Sidney Crosby made an appearance.
However, even though he has been in the league for 21 seasons and is 39 years old, the old Flower still creeps out every once in a while.
After the win, the Wild went to center ice to salute their fans. It seems as if Fleury's teammates were trying to do something at center ice, but Marc-Andre wasn't having it and he skated off before they could do anything. The rest of the team followed afterwards, but in true Fleury fashion, he always has to do something off beat.
When Fleury retires, the league will never be the same.
