The Montreal Canadiens are unlikely to share an update on Patrik Laine on Monday.

Montreal Canadiens fans continue to wait anxiously for an update on 2016 second-overall pick Patrik Laine, who left Saturday's game following a knee-on-knee with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare.

Patrik Laine showed up to the Canadiens' practice in Brossard on Monday morning, watching on from the bench with his left knee in a brace and holding his crutches. But he appeared to be in good spirits, smiling while talking with teammates.

Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis spoke on Patrik Laine after the team's practice, saying that it stings a little bit more because of how excited they were able to make the Finnish forward to come to the rink again.

Despite fans wanting an update on Patrik Laine, as well as 2023 first-round pick David Reinbacher, who also left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury, it appears that they won't be giving one on Monday.

Arpon Basu of The Athletic shared in a social media post on Monday that the Canadiens have advised that there is no update on the status of Patrik Laine or David Reinbacher today.

When it comes to Patrik Laine, the most likely reason why there hasn't been an update on his status is due to swelling. Because of the swelling in his knee, the Canadiens likely haven't been able to get Laine in for an MRI just yet. Once the swelling wears off, then Laine will undergo an MRI and the Canadiens will get a better understanding of what they're dealing with in terms of his injury.

If Laine is gone for the entire season, it'll be a devastating blow for the Canadiens and for the 26-year-old. After a tough 2023-24 season where he dealt with an upper-body injury, followed by entering the NHL, NHLPA's players assistance program, Laine was ready to go and happy to be with the Canadiens this season. Everyone in the Canadiens organization, the fanbase and fans around hockey are hoping for the best outcome here and that he'll be back on the ice at some point this season.

According to brand new reports Laine is out for the 2024 calendar year.
