NHL set to return to this country for first time since 1959
Over the course of their history, the National Hockey League has visited many countries around the world after first staging overseas games in 1938 when the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings played a nine-game tour in the United Kingdom and France.
Now, the National Hockey League has its sights set on returning to a country they haven't visited since 1959 - France.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Montreal Canadiens are going to be playing games in Paris, France in October 2025.
"Before we wrap up, worth a little mentioning as well. We talked about the Global Series a couple of weeks ago. We should also mention that the Montreal Canadiens are poised to go to Paris, by the looks of things, in 2025. So not this coming year, the following year in October of 2025." Pagnotta said.
He added, "It looks like the Canadiens and the NHL are still working on things to get the Habs over there in Paris in '25 and I believe that Stockholm will be the other host at that point. So we'll see."
The Canadiens are no stranger to playing in Paris. During their 1938 tour with the Detroit Red Wings, three of the nine games were played in Paris, with Montreal winning twice.
When the Canadiens take to the ice in Paris in October 2025, it'll be the first time that they'll be playing a game overseas since 1992 when they played a pair of games in London, England against the Chicago Blackhawks.
