Massive 20-year-old defenceman Igor Mburanumwe, who comes in very close to six and a half feet tall, has earned himself a tryout at training camp with an NHL team
A young defenseman, who has a frame suitable for professional wrestling, is getting a tryout with an NHL team. Igor Mburanumwe, 20, comes in at six-foot-five, and tops the scales at 206 lbs. He also still has time to get bigger.
James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now writes Mburanumwe has received an invite to the New Jersey Devils training camp in September. Mburanumwe started playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league in 2020 with the Victoriaville Tigres. He was traded to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan last season.
"The Chambly, Quebec, Canada native had a career year in his 20-year-old season skating with the Titan, potting seven goals, 13 assists, and 20 points, career highs in each category. It's also worth noting he was a plus-20 on the season. Mburanumwe wore an 'A' for the Titan last season and was described as a vocal leader in the locker room."
Mburanumwe has committed to playing for the University of McGill in the USports League, which is like Canada's version of the NCAA in the US.
"The McGill Men's Hockey Team is extremely proud welcome Igor Mburanumwe to the Redbirds for the 2024-2025 Season‼️. Hailing from Chambly, Quebec, he will join us from Acadie-Bathurts Titan"
Mburanumwe is described as a defensive defenseman, despite a bit of an offensive breakout last season, and he is not afraid of throwing his size around.
