Patrick Roy and the New York Islanders were back in action yesterday against the Metropolitan Division rival New Jersey Devils. After two straight wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators, the team wanted to keep their winning streak going despite Barzal's injury.
Unfortunately, the Isles came up short and lost 4-3 in overtime. Lou Lamoriello's team is now fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 6-6-3 record, four points behind the New York Rangers, and one point ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
They blew two leads in the game: a one-goal lead early in the first period and a two-goal lead in the third. In the NHL, winning teams all have something in common: they can protect a lead.
The Isles showed last night that they aren't able to do that. The Devils managed to return to the game two times before winning in overtime, highlighting all the work that still needs to be done in Long Island.
After the game, Paul Bissonnette didn't shy away from sharing his opinion about the Islanders on X.
He stated that the team is "allergic" to leads and that he's never seen something like this. He went as far as calling them "pathetic" in the same post.

It's funny that Biz, who's a Leafs fan, believes a team is pathetic for blowing leads, considering Toronto's history of letting their opponents get back in the game after taking a lead.
However, I agree with him that the team must do better. If they want to clinch a playoff spot this season in the competitive Metropolitan Division, someone will need to turn things around in New York.
