Last night the hockey world was put into a state of shock after Hartford Wolfpack defenseman Ben Harpur decided to steamroll Rochester Americans goaltender Felix Sandstorm.
The play was premeditated and clearly intentional with the sole purpose of taking out Felix Sandstorm.
With further research, it was determined that Ben Harpur was seeking revenge on Felix Sandstrom for an incident last season that led Ben Harpur to suffer a season-ending injury.
Ben Harpur has always been known for his physical presence on the ice but this time seemed to take it too far.
After the game, it was announced by the Rochester Americans that Felix Sandstrom would miss time after suffering an injury when hit by Ben Harpur.
After spending 7 seasons and 198 total games in the NHL Ben Harpur has now found himself in the AHL the last couple of seasons and with this type of behavior likely will not be back soon.
The hit was debated all over social media with almost all fans agreeing that Ben Harpur deserves a suspension. Tonight the AHL agreed and handed down a 4 game suspension.
The suspension is the longest handed out in the AHL so far this season. As of now, it is unknown whether or not Ben Harpur will appeal the suspension or just take his punishment.
Either way, Ben Harpur likely will not win any appeal he makes and should end up serving the 4 game suspension.
