Insider links future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane to one of his former teams
Future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane is set to become an unrestricted free agent in exactly one week and there's no doubt there will be quite a bit of interest in his services.
The Buffalo, New York native returned to action in early December after he signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings a week prior. He missed the first couple months of the 2023-24 season after having off-season hip surgery, but that didn't slow down the three-time Stanley Cup champion.
Heading into free agency next week, a return to the Detroit Red Wings can't be ruled out, but could Patrick Kane head back to one of his other former teams? Chris Johnston of TSN thinks so.
On 'The Chris Johnston Show' recently, the TSN insider said that Kane is likely looking for a two or three-year contract in free agency and said that there's been a lot of smoke about him returning to the New York Rangers.
"Kane's going to be looking for, I would think, something like a 3-year contract. Maybe 2-year. The devils are in the details of the negotiations. I know there's been a lot of smoke about a return to #NYR." Johnston said.
Kane, 35, is coming off the 16th 20+ goal season of his National Hockey League career and it just shows that he can still be a top-six forward, play on the powerplay and contribute offensively. In 50 games with Detroit, Kane had 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-five.
We're just one week until the opening of the unrestricted free agent market, which is set for 12 pm ET on Canada Day. We'll have to wait and see what the market bring for Patrick Kane next week, but once Noon ET rolls around, don't be surprised if he puts pen to paper on a deal to return to The Big Apple.
