The New Tork Rangers called up an unexpected forward from the AHL, wasting no time to replace Matt Rempe, who was sent down to the Hartford Wolfpack.

Last Thursday, in a surprising decision, the New York Rangers sent down their young enforcer Matt Rempe to the Hartford Wolfpack in the AHL.

After a promising NHL start, Rempe has been struggling since the season started. The 22-year-old 6-foot-9 forward took part in only two games this season and was healthy scratched on the Rangers' five other games. Instead of keeping him in the NHL with a limited role, the organization decided to send him down to the AHL, where he'll get more ice time.

This morning, the Rangers announced that they've called up Jake Leschyshyn from the AHL to replace Rempe.

Here's what they posted on X:

Leschyshyn, 25, was drafted 62nd overall in 2017 by the Vegas Golden Knights. Since then, he took part in 77 NHL games with the Golden Knights and the Rangers, but spent most of his time in the AHL, playing over 200 games for the Chicago Wolves, Henderson Silver Knights, and Hartford Wolfpack.

Last season, the forward played one game with the Rangers, and couldn't add his name to the scoresheet. In the AHL, he scored 19 points, including eight goals, in 47 games.

Leschyshyn should be in action with the Rangers tonight, as the team looks to bounce back from their tough 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. For the occasion, they'll face the former Rangers Frank Vatrano and Ryan Strome with the Anaheim Ducks.

Meanwhile, Rempe took part in his first start with the Wolfpack last night and ended the night with a -2 goal differential. Leschyshyn scored two points, including one goal in that game.
