Peter Laviolette Makes his Feelings Known and Challenges Rangers' Matt Rempe To Step Up In A Very Key Area
Matt Rempe always seems to be in the doghouse for the New York Rangers, and it appears that coach Peter Laviolette needs him to step up in a key area once again.
Matt Rempe has come along quite a bit in his game of late, earning his way into the New York Rangers lineup.
He still is playing a robust hitting game, but he has cleaned up the rough edges and taken fewer unnecessary penalties.
That said, head coach Peter Laviolette still thinks there is an area where young Rempe can get better.
«I think he's done a good job,» Laviolette said about Rempe. «I would still like to see with the puck offensively. Just generating, simple mindset, get it on net, good stuff like that. He's come in and played pretty good defense and chipped in with some good physicality. I'd like to push that offensive boundary just a little bit.»
Since he returned from that eight-game suspension, Rempe has played the last 12, and for anyone's money, he has been a more confident player than when the season started, which is what makes him so fun to watch.
Laviolette is right, though, there's a gear that Rempe hasn't gotten to as of yet. If he ever does, the potential is there for him to be a difference-maker.
The Rangers and Laviolette are going to need Rempe to be at his best, as the team is still fighting very hard to make the playoffs and they are not out of the woods yet, as they have multiple teams to still jump over if they want to play in the Spring.
