The New York Rangers are looking to clear some cap space with their captain Jacob Trouba on the trade block. GM Chris Drury has floated the 30-year-old, defenceman's name around the league and apparently, things are heating up.
It is believed that Drury is working on a deal to send the bruising defender to the Red Wings, a trade that Trouba would accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13. It will be a homecoming for Trouba, who is from Rochester, Michigan.
The Rangers have a pair of younger, restricted free-agent defensemen, Ryan Lindgren and Braden Schneider needing new contracts. Trouba found himself on the third pairing at times during the postseason in favour of Schneider. Trouba's ice time dropped from 21:15 in the regular season to 20:59 in the playoffs, while Schneider's rose from 15:54 to 17:32.
