After three seasons with the New York Rangers, Barclay Goodrow was placed on waivers as the team looks to clear cap space in order to make additions to their roster once the free agency window opens at 12 pm ET on Monday, July 1st.
According to Molly Walker of the New York Post, the Rangers reportedly have an agreement in place that would see Barclay Goodrow be claimed off waivers on Wednesday afternoon by one of his former teams - the San Jose Sharks.
The Toronto native signed with the San Jose Sharks organization as an undrafted free agent in March 2014 and went on to spent parts of the first six seasons of his NHL career with them. He appeared in 20 games during San Jose's run to the Western Conference Final in 2019, before being traded to Tampa Bay the following season, where he won a pair of Stanley Cups.
Goodrow, 31, appeared in 80 games this season for the New York Rangers, where he recorded 12 points (four goals, eight assists), played 78 penalty minutes, and was a minus-13. He went on to add eight points (six goals, two assists) in 16 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Rangers lost in the Eastern Conference Final to Florida.
We'll have to wait and see what happens when the waiver news is announced at 2 pm ET on Wednesday, but it appears that Goodrow is heading back to Northern California for a second stint with the team that signed him as a free agent a little over ten years ago.
