The sale of the Ottawa Senators, a small but diehard Canadian hockey market, has surprisingly become a highly desired opportunity for a few celebrities, including Ryan Reynolds and Snoop Dogg.
According to reports from TSN's Bruce Garrioch, another celebrity has entered the bidding, this time being the Torontonian musician, The Weeknd.
The Weeknd has management based in Ottawa, and has had ties to the city growing up in Canada. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is surely loving the celebrity attention brought to the league and the Ottawa Senators, but according to Elliotte Friedman, celebrity status can only be an additive to a offer that will stand on its own merit.
With the myriad of groups now involved in the bidding for the Senators and the price reportedly exceeding $1 billion, the negotiations will likely be lengthy. At this point, a sale is obviously nowhere near complete.
