Patrick Kane opens up on whether he'd ever return to the Chicago Blackhawks after being traded
The 2022/23 season was by far the toughest year of Patrick Kane's career. From the moment the puck dropped Kane had to answer questions about his future with the rebuilding Blackhawks, something he never thought he'd have to do. Kane also battled a nagging hip injury that will likely require offseason surgery to hopefully correct.
Ultimately after months of distraction Kane was finally able to orchestrate a trade to the New York Rangers. This was a move to help Kane hopefully win another Stanley Cup, something he'd longed for. Unfortunately the Rangers fizzled out in the first round ending any hopes of that.
During locker room clean out Kane was asked about his future and about the possibility of returning to the Blackhawks for another season. Kane's answer should surprise absolutely no one, especially after the Hawks informed Jonathan Toews they had no interest in retaining his services.
When asked Kane gave the most honest answer possible.
They're rebuilding, so that's never crossed my mind to be honest with you.
It's clear Kane plans on continuing his hockey career and plans on doing so, but only where he has an opportunity to win. It's clear from watching Kane however that he needs to find a way to repair his hip to get himself into a position where he can compete at a high level.
