The defensive market has been shrinking in recent weeks as we head towards the trade deadline on Friday at 3 p.m. ET. The Dallas Stars added Chris Tanev, while the Toronto Maple Leafs brought in Ilya Lyubushkin.

There are still several defencemen that are expected to be moved this week, and according to Darren Dreger of TSN, action is picking up on one of those blueliners - Jakob Chychrun of the Ottawa Senators.

Dreger is reporting that while it's not a guarantee Chychrun will be traded, teams are thinking that having him for two playoff runs could be worth the Ottawa Senators' asking price.

"I'm sensing with the D market quickly shrinking action around Jakob Chychrun has picked up. Doesn't mean there's a deal to be made, but teams are likely thinking at least two playoff runs with him may be worth the asking price. @TSNHockey" Dreger said in a post on X.

Chychrun, 25, is only in his first full season with the Ottawa Senators after being traded to them during the 2022-23 campaign by the Arizona Coyotes. His time with Ottawa has been fine, but the pieces they could get in return for Chychrun could help the Senators significantly in the coming years.

In 59 games this season, the Boca Raton, Florida native has put up 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists), 50 penalty minutes and is a minus-15.

This will certainly be an interesting story to monitor over the next four days and it'll be interesting to see if the Senators find a trade partner that is willing to give up the assets they're looking for.
