Philadelphia Flyers fans can rejoice on Thursday after news has come out from Kevin Weekes of ESPN saying that goaltending prospect Alexei Kolosov is on his way to join the team for training camp, with both sides resolving any issues they had.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared in a post on X that as part of the agreement, Kolosov would return to North America, play in some preseason games with the Flyers and the American Hockey League with Lehigh Valley. If Kolosov doesn't stick with the Flyers, then he could return to Dynamo Minsk in the KHL.
It's been a wild ride for both the Philadelphia Flyers and Alexei Kolosov just to get to this point on Thursday.
Kolosov joined the Flyers organization towards the end of the 2023-24 season after being assigned to the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms in early April. He would only appear in two games for the Phantoms before the season came to a close.
A report came out over the summer suggesting that Kolosov didn't want to return to play in the American Hockey League because he was in a hotel all by himself, feeling quite isolated, especially with him not speaking very good English. The Belarusian was reportedly made available in trade talks by the Flyers and once training camp opened last week, Kolosov wasn't with the team and his future in Philadelphia was uncertain.
It's going to be interesting to see how things pan out for Alexei Kolosov here in North America and if he's able to find some game time in the National Hockey League, which may be tough with the team already having Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov on their roster.
