Tristan Jarry inked the richest deal for a goalie in Penguins history before last season, and now it's been revealed that some were against the move from the outset.

The Pittsburgh Penguins recently waived Tristan Jarry for the second time this season, and now it appears he'll likely be spending the rest of his season in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, unless something catastrophic happens at the NHL level.

Now, more details have emerged surrounding the Penguins and Tristan Jarry, with a recent comment from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman revealing that there were those members of the organization that were against the deal from the outset.

The contract was a five-year, $26.875 million deal, the richest in history for a Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender, and while it looks bad now, the numbers leading into that year weren't too bad.

In the two years leading into that, Jarry posted a 2.90 and a 2.42 GAA alongside a .919 and a .909 save percentage, but since then he's completely fallen apart, and is one of the biggest reasons for their struggles this season.

With the duo of Alex Nedeljkovic and Joel Blomqvist set to lead this team into the future, there's still optimism that they can compete for a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot this season, but with Jarry's $5.3 million cap hit still on the books for a further three years after this one, it leaves them with a major decision to make.

It's unclear however exactly why then brand new GM Kyle Dubas wanted to rush to get this deal done, but in hindsight it now looks like a dreadful deal, and unless he can work some magic with the rest of the roster, it could ultimately be the deal that sees his time in Pittsburgh come to an end.
