On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins made the shock call to place starting goaltender Tristan Jarry on waivers for the second time this season, potentially signalling the end of his time as a Pittsburgh Penguin.
Through 22 games this season, Jarry has posted a record of 8-8-4, but with a 3.26 GAA and an .886 save percentage, it's safe to say that he's not living up to the $5.375 million cap hit that he's currently being paid.
Now, General Manager Kyle Dubas has commented on the situation, noting that while this was the right move for the team to make, Jarry worked hard to try and improve his play after early struggles on the season.
There's no doubting that Jarry has done everything right throughout this period of struggle in his career, but with the Penguins dropping seven of their past eight games, it's safe to say that it was time for them to move on.
Now, they'll once more turn to young goaltender Joel Blomqvist, whose numbers don't look much better than Jarry, but with a .904 save percentage through 8 games this year, it's safe to say that the 22-year old has flashed immense potential in net, and may now get a longer leash.
Ultimately though, it's tough to see where the future of Jarry lies, as he's not put together an elite level season for a number of years, and with his contract valid for another three years beyond this one, it's going to be interesting to see how Pittsburgh handle the situation.
