Sidney Crosby's extension with Pittsburgh may be signed on Wednesday
Sidney Crosby's contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins may be signed on Wednesday.
On July 1st, Pittsburgh Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby became eligible to sign a contract extension and many have been wondering why he hasn't put pen to paper yet.
The fact that Crosby hasn't signed yet has made some Pittsburgh Penguins fans worried, but they shouldn't be and there's a chance we could see a contract extension be made official by the team at some point on Wednesday.
Mark Madden of the 'Madden Monday' podcast expects Sidney Crosby to sign a contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow, which happens to be the captain's 37th birthday.
"Many National Hockey League observers assume that Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will sign his contract extension this week. After all, the notoriously superstitious No. 87 has his 37th birthday coming up on Aug. 7 (8/7).
During this week's «Madden Monday» podcast, Mark Madden of 105.9 The X and TribLive says that is exactly what he expects to happen." Tim Benz of Trib Live said.
Another sports reporter in Pittsburgh, Jason Mackey also believes that Sidney Crosby will put pen to paper on his new contract extension on Wednesday.
"The next concern I hear about this actually getting done will be the first. But at the same time, if this is the most recent Crosby column you've read by Thursday morning, we might have problems.
This all should come down to Wednesday or Aug. 7, for anyone like me who can quote movies from 20 years ago but struggles to remember dates. That's also, as we all know, Crosby's birthday." Mackey said.
Later in his article, he added, "That's why I expect something to get done on Wednesday the Penguins blasting out the extension on social media and the talk centered around the captain staying here, as he should."
The Cole Harbour native has spent his entire 19-year NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and will be entering his 20th season in a matter of months. The most interesting thing with Crosby's pending contract extension will be term. He won't be 38 until the new deal kicks in, but given his strong play in recent years, including back-to-back 90+ point seasons, Crosby isn't slowing down anytime soon and could play for at least another four or five years.
