St. Louis Blues player gets booed by his home fans after disrespectful comment about former coach
St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou has had a slow start to the season with only 5 goals and 17 points in 28 games. Kyrou is in the first year of an eight year, $65M deal signed in September 2022.
The 25 year old Kyrou has watched his teammate Robert Thomas, who has the exact same contract as Kyrou, score 27 points in 28 games, and is currently tied for the team lead in goals.
Kyrou has struggled under now-former Blues head coach Craig Berube this season, hoping to get a fresh start with new bench boss under interim head coach Drew Bannister.
"It kind of feels like a little bit of a fresh start kind of thing," Kyrou told The Athletics' Jeremy Rutherford, "Yeah, we're all excited here. We want to turn the ship around right now and get our culture back a little bit and get back to how we know how to play hockey."
Asked on his relationship of Berube, who was fired Tuesday night, Kyrou had a rather blunt answer.
"I've got no comment. He's not my coach anymore,"
Kyrou said.
The frosty response from Kyrou highlights the pairs relationship. Berube and Kyrou, got into an argument late last season in Nashville as they were headed to the locker room, according to Jeremey Rutherford.
Berube also called out Kyrou during the team's overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks last season.
"Our best players don't play with any passion, no emotion and no inspiration at all," Berube said at the time. "They don't play inspired hockey. You cannot play in this league without emotion, grit, being inspired. They're getting paid lots of money and they're not doing the job. End of story."
There is still plenty of runway for Kyrou to turn his season around and hopefully Berube will be back behind an NHL bench soon.
Tonight, Blues' fans didn't take too kindly to Kyrou's comments and let him know.
