Anaheim Ducks acquire former Stanley Cup champion
The Anaheim Ducks made a splash two days after free agency opened by acquiring Robby Fabbri from the Detroit Red Wings for Gage Alexander. Also heading to Anaheim is a conditional fourth-round pick.
Fabbri, 28 a nine-year NHL veteran previously played for Detroit and St Louis where he won a Stanley Cup championship during the 2018-2019 season.
In nearly 400 NHL games he has accumulated 98 goals and 102 assists for 200 points. During that stretch, he has also managed to get 183 penalty minutes.
Alexander was drafted 148th overall by the Ducks in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Entry draft. During his time playing professionally in the ECHL and the AHL the 22-year-old from Okotoks, Alberta contributed collectively 11 wins, 19 losses and 6 ties.
With the move for Fabbri, the Ducks who have been relatively quiet during the offseason add some veteran depth at the centre position and some much-needed leadership on a team with a core in a rebuilding phase.
While it is unclear where Fabbri will fit into the roster, expect him to take some top-six minutes.
This is a good depth add for the Ducks and also provides more veteran presence for their young team as well.
